ANNAPURNA

DESCRIPTION

Annapurna is the Hindu goddess of food, nourishment and abundance, she who ensures no one goes hungry. This photoshoot reimagines her not in a world where the very things she represents are under threat.
 

The imagery places Annapurna in landscapes of both plenty and scarcity: golden fields giving way to drought, overlooking scarce grain that will come to barely fill empty bowls. She is both giver and a witness, her presence a reminder that reciprocity is necessary since it  cultivates and protected all who live on this planet.
 

Climate change is the quiet antagonist here. Rising temperatures, failing harvests and water scarcity threaten the abundance Annapurna embodies. The shoot asks a simple question: if the goddess of food cannot feed her people, what does that say about how we treat the planet that feeds us?
 

The visual language draws on her peaceful presence against the warm earth tones, gradient skies and dry fields adding textures to signal environmental stress. The model is styled in non-traditional clothing, witness to the modern world's crimes, but her surroundings tell a contemporary story. The result is a quiet plea to do more, to learn from our past and treat the planet as sacred because what sustains us is not infinite.
